Tibet Lhasa Cultural Tour with Everest Base Camp 7 nights 8 days Itinerary

Kathmandu – Lhasa by flight – 1 hours   2 Star     Hotel   at Hotel Flora or similar

Pick up from hotel and transfer to Kathmandu airport as per the flight schedule. The flight to Lhasa passes right across the main Himalayan range and provides magnificent views of mountains and the terrains before landing at Gongar Airport.

Meet our guide outside the exit. Transfer to a hotel in Lhasa city-1hrs. Drive to the city from airport passes through the longest and largest river in Tibet, Yarlung Tsangpo River (Brahmaputra river) and Lhasa river. Check in at the hotel. Free time to relax or explore the market. Overnight at hotel.

Lhasa – sightseeing  2 Star   Hotel   at Hotel Flora or similar

Sightseeing during the day includes visit to Drepung Monastery, Sera Monastery and Norbulinkha in Lhasa. The first site, Drepung monastery is one of the three great Gelugpa monasteries in Tibet built back in 1416 AD by Jamyan Choge, one of Tsongkhapa’s main disciples. This monastery was once the largest in the world housing around 10,000 monks. These days the figure is down to few hundreds, but it is still can be a site of interest as it was left relatively unscathed during the Cultural Revolution in Tibet.

Sera Monastery, one of three great Gelugpa monasteries in Tibet, was built back in 1419 AD by Jamchen Chojey, one of Tsongkhapa’s main disciples. The chanting and prayer session between 3 to 5 in the afternoon is the main attraction here.

The day trip ends with a visit to Norbulinkha, the summer palace of the Dalai Lama.

Lhasa – sightseeing 2 Star    Hotel   at Hotel Flora or similar

Sightseeing during the day includes a visit to Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple and Barkhor Street Market in Lhasa.

The famous Potala Palace is the winter palace of Dalai Lama. This spectacular building has 1000 chambers, gilded burial stupas of former Dalai Lamas and a meditation cave of the 33rd great king of Tibet. According to the chronicles, there was a palace on this site since the 5th or 6th century and the present palace was constructed in the 17th century.

Continue your sightseeing adventure with a visit to Jokhang Temple. This temple is regarded as one of the most sacred shrines in Tibet and processions of devout Tibetans is a common sight throughout the temple complex. The temple was built by 33rd great king in 17th century to promote Buddhism. Surrounding the Jokhang temple is Barkhor, a maze of narrow cobbled streets and the central market of Lhasa. Sightseeing in Lhasa concludes with a stroll along Barkhor street market. Overnight at Hotel.

Lhasa – Gyantse – Shigatse  2 Star    Hotel   at Hotel Everest Friendship or similar

The day’s trip starts with a drive along the friendship highway of Lhasa – Kathmandu. Cross high mountain passes during this trip. The first one is Khamba La (4794 m). Stunning views across the waters of Yamdrok-Tso Lake to the snowy summit of Nazin Kang Sa (7252 m) can be seen from Khamba La.

The trip continues towards west and over another high pass, the Karo La (5045 m). The high pass treats you to a spectacular scene of huge glaciers tumbling down within few hundred meters of the road.

Continue the trip passing through beautiful valleys before arriving at the colorful Tibetan town of Gyantse. It is also the third largest historical city in Tibet. Visit Pelhor Monastery and Gyantse Kumbum at Gyatse.

Pelkor Monastery is a fort which dates back to the 14th century. The amazing views of Gyantse and its surrounding Nyang Chu Village can be seen from the fort. Gyantse Kumbum is a large gold-domed stupa and with many small chapels house, which is an impressive array of Tibetan Buddhism murals.

After sightseeing in Gyantse continue the drive to Shigatse (90 km approx.), the second largest city in Tibet.Overnight at Hotel in Shigatse.

Shigatse – Rongbuk  Guest house

Early morning breakfast at the hotel.

Visit Tashilhunpo Monastery, one of the largest functioning monasteries in Tibet, and the seat of Panchen Lama, the second largest incarnation of Dalai Lama in Tibet. Drive to Rongbuk via Xegar and Tingri. These small towns provide incredible views of Mt. Everest on clear days. The drive also crosses high pass such as Pang La Pass (5050 m). The pass offers views of the five highest mountains in the world, Mt. Everest, Makalu, Cho Oyu and Shisapangma.

Continue towards Rongbok Monastery, which always reappears, more impressive than ever. Overnight at hotel or guesthouse in Rongbuk.

Rongbuk – Everest B. C. – Shigatse  2 Star   Hotel   at Hotel Everest Friendship or similar

Enjoy the mesmerizing sunrise views of Mt. Everest, standing like a snow-capped pyramid from Rongbuk. The place also offers grand views of Mt. Everest.

After breakfast, depart for a short hike to the Mt. Everest Base Camp, which is approx. 4 kms from Rongbuk. This base camp is dry and barren, but the views of the highest peak and its surroundings is well worth your while. It is a truly awe-inspiring place with the sheer north face of the highest mountain in the world towering above you. Return back to Shigatse. Overnight at hotel.

Shigatse – Lhasa.  2 Star       Hotel   at Hotel Flora or similar

Drive back to Lhasa from Shigatse passing Gyantse. The road passes along the Brahmaputra river before reaching Lhasa. It is the last night of the trip.Overnight at hotel.

Lhasa Depart- By flight  -1   hours

Fly to Kathmandu. Breakfast at hotel.  Transfer to Gongar Lhasa airport. The flight to Kathmandu passes across the main Himalayan range and provides magnificent views of mountains and the terrains before landing at Kathmandu Airport. After arrival Kathmandu, our representative will receive you outside the arrival gate of the airport and transfer to hotel. Our itinerary excludes accommodation for this night.
